چکیده

This paper presents a framework for providing survivability to group communications where part of the underlying trafsic layer infrastructure is connectionoriented. The framework is multi-layered to express the virtual overlays inherent to networked systems, describes survivability issues unique to group communications, and outlines tradeoffs between restoration techniques that can be extended from circuit-switched communications. The conclusion is disjoint dedicated backup route sets to provide survivability for connection-oriented group communications is preferable but more research needs to be done on coordination between layers ana! scalable techniques within the survivability framework presented.

Providing guaranteed assurance to connection-oriented group communications using disjoint routing

This paper compares different approaches which provide guaranteed assurance to connection-oriented group communications based on the use of working and backup disjoint route sets. Specifically, we present experimental results showing the effect of disjoint backup route sets on mesh/tree/ring: (1) feasibility and (2) cost.

A Unified Approach to Survivability of Connection-Oriented Networks

This paper deals with problems of computer networks survivability. We present and discuss survivability aspects of Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) and other services based on the anycast paradigm. After that, we propose a new unified approach to network survivability. This approach assumes using jointly survivability mechanisms for both kinds of traffic: anycast (oneto-one-of-many access to co...

Introducing Adaptivity into Mobile Network Protocol

Mobile data networks are important parts of global communications. The network protocol deployed in the mobile network is typically based on a wireline network protocol, which is either a connection-oriented network protocol or connectionless network protocol. In this paper, we show that neither of these protocols ts well for a dynamic mobile network. Instead, we argue that by enabling the netw...

Model-Based Evaluation of Distributed Intrusion Detection Protocols for Mobile Group Communication Systems

Under highly security vulnerable, resource-restricted, and dynamically changing mobile ad hoc environments, it is critical to be able to maximize the system lifetime while bounding the communication response time for mission-oriented mobile groups. In this paper, we analyze the tradeoff of security versus performance for distributed intrusion detection protocols employed in mobile group communi...

An Interprocess Communications Design for Migrating Objects

In this paper, we describe a design for an object-oriented, interprocess communications subsystem that supports the migration of communication endpoints. All communication is connection-oriented and occurs between two endpoints, represented by Interface Objects (IObjs). A full-duplex connection between IObjs is implemented by one buuer ring per direction; the buuer rings are conceptually shared...
